Making friends while playing

Our Groupings

At Cheeky Monkey's, we understand the importance of a stable routine to the health and well being of your child. We operate a flexible routine, which can be eaily adapted in order to facilitate the needs and interests of the children in all areas of the nursery. All children that attend Cheeky Monkeys will be appointed a KEY WORKER, who provides updates on development and is the first port of call for any information or queries.

From your initial enquiry we can advise on availability, cost and advise on how to access council funding towards your child's place at nursery.

2-3 Area

The 2-3 area is on the lower floor of the nursery, the children are encouraged at this stage to build their confidence and independence. The staff plan daily, based upon the children's interests and these can be taken forward through trips to the local area, themed activities, sensory play and story telling. The children are encouraged to develop an interest in literacy and numeracy through rhymes, songs and stories. The staff are very enthusiastic in providing an environment which is rich and exciting. One of the areas which we use to ignite the children's imagination is our Woodland area, which is a five minute walk away. Here the children build dens, listen to the birds, make transient artwork and explore to their hearts content!

3-5 Area

The staff in the 3-5 area have a broad knowledge of the Curriculum for Excellence, and planning is skilled, taking on board the interests of the children and linking this into the outcomes of the curriculum. Staff have focussed recently on Parents Involvement, and this has resulted in close relationships, through verbal communication daily, to observations noted and logged in the child's individual plotter.

As Cheeky Monkeys works in partnership with Perth and Kinross Council, the staff are supported by teacher, Nicky McPherson, who helps them through any changes. These could include general planning, to transitions to the school. In terms of transition, we have a very strong relationship with The Community School of Auchterarder (Nursery/Primary), and this is fundamental for our Pre-school children who are due to start school. Children enjoy a number of transitional visits to the Community School of Auchterarder in the run up to them starting in Primary one. These include visits to the classroom, dining centre, playground and gym hall. Those who are attending schools other than TCSoA have visits from their future Primary one teacher and staff aim to obtain photographs of their school to familiarise them with the setting. Children are usually invited to their transitioning school before the summer to meet the teachers and get used to the building and fellow pupils.

Out of school club

The out of school club is a great place for the children to relax and unwind after a busy day at school. The Out of School Club has a Key Worker, who goes to pick them up from school and brings them back to a spacious room. On offer, we have a Kindle, ipad, home corner, various board games and crafts. The children also receive a snack.
